Lost in Space‘s (the television series) Guy Williams stars in this German production of Captain Sindbad. It was produced as a cheaper follow-up to The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), though not sure why the name change. Location shooting was planned for India, but eventually the movie wound up being shot at Bavaria Studios to trim the budget. The main disappointment, besides budget, is there’s no Ray Harryhausen Dynamation.

The Wizard of Oz Pressbook (1955 rerelease)

I was introduced to The Wizard of Oz by film historian William K. Everson. My friend, Ron  (I wonder if he ever escaped Brooklyn?), who knew Everson, brought me over to meet him one long ago, but youthful, day. Everson invited us to watch The Wizard of Oz. We did. He cranked up the projector and we watched the movie. It's hard to describe the thrill of watching a movie like TWofO with a person like Everson, but what I thought I knew about the movie I realized I didn't know much at all. I don't recall if the copy was 35mm, but I can say he had a large enough room and big enough screen to show any movie properly. I wonder what ever happened to my friend Ron. We were inseparable for a time, but time isn't much for inseparableness. Ron was an ardent film buff and quite knowledgeable himself. He had a large collection of 16mm and 8mm films. I hope he fared well.

An enjoyable Amicus and AIP offering, even if  Mystery Science Theater 3000 poked fun at it (although that was enjoyable too). Caroline Munro and Peter Cushing are always engaging, and Doug McClure may have hit a rough patch in his acting career, but he presents a solid character to deal with all the mayhem. The flying creatures are jaw-dropping, but I'd still want a model kit or vinyl figure depicting one of them. See more movie pressbooks From Zombos' Closet.

First Men in the Moon (1964) Pressbook

Here's the pressbook for First Men in the Moon, another memorable Ray Harryhausen effects movie. Of course, CGI makes it all look very easy these days. While the science is off, the art direction is imaginative and the movie is fun to watch. Thanks to ZC reader Terry Michitsch for requesting this one: I thought I had posted it years ago. Yup, my organizing skills are awful and my closet is too big.

Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (1965)

I saw Dr. Terror's House of Horrors on the big screen when it first hit theaters in the U.S. I was nine. It scared me. I avoided shrubs and bushes for a long time after that.
