Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (1965)
British Pressbook

I saw Dr. Terror's House of Horrors on the big screen when it first hit theaters in the U.S. I was nine. It scared me. I avoided shrubs and bushes for a long time after that.

Horror Hotel (1960) Pressbook

The City of the Dead (although I prefer the more sensational U.S. title, Horror Hotel) was a staple for horror television back in the black and white days. Milton Subotsky rewrote the script and produced it, so this pretty much makes it the first Amicus production. And a good one it is, too. The poster art is killer.

Dark Intruder (1965) Pressbook

I found out about this movie after reading Night Gallery: An After Hours Tour (which I highly recommend). Dark Intruder was the pilot for a potential series for television called The Black Cloak, produced by Jack Laird. Dailymotion is currently offering a slightly blurry copy for view, and it's well worth the time spent.

Here's the pressbook to whet your appetite. Bon appetite.

Escape from New York (1981) Pressbook

Snake Plissken didn't let a wall stop him. I saw Escape from New York in a theater in 1981. And not a multiplex theater either, but just one big screen. That's how a movie like this should be seen. Popcorn optional.

Torture Garden (1967) Pressbook

Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee should have both appeared in this movie, but the American studio backing it wanted American names. A pity, as Jack Palance is out of place here. His performance is oddly delivered (but energetic). This Amicus portmanteau entry is still a lot of creepy with Burgess Meredith stealing the spotlight. The Fright Seeds gimmick is priceless.
