So it has come to this. The monsters that once scared audiences and terrorized countless kids through Shock Theater on television were made benign and comical and quite a lot of fun to watch. The world had changed. Science was the new monster, springing to life as we entered the space age. Unlike the mysterious, sinister, and supernatural trappings of Universal’s classic horror cycles, science would still be a mystery to many, but a welcomed one, filled with unlimited potential for doing good.
A second world war was over and hope finally settled in along with an energy greater than that charging up Frankenstein’s Monster. After all the real-life terror and death of a world acting like a mad scientist, a lighter tone–a mixture of medicine tinged with a dash of old world supernatural fog, dark woods, gypsy curse, and a blood-sucking bat–was prescribed with Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. …

I saw this rat-munching zombie head at a Party City. Nasty, disgusting, and all-together a great Halloween animated decoration. Loved it.

3D Monster Window Stickers
At Dollar Tree
I saw these 3D window stickers at a Dollar Tree Store. Similar to the more humorous Halloween Pop Up Stickers I found there last year in design, these are pretty amazing in their serious monster art and dark mood. Other entries in this series included spiders, rats, etc. Would love to see these in a much larger format.
Beistle Halloween Cutouts
I found these newer Beistle monster designs in my local discount store. They tip toward cutesy, but each illustration shows style. Strangely, the Frankenstein Monster is smaller than Dracula, and the Witch is the largest cutout. Date on the label says 2012, but the backside of the label is for a different decoration than these cutouts. It reads No. 01022, Glittered Happy Halloween Streamer. The number for these cutouts is 01630.
