Scheduled for a late summer release, Monsters of Legend is the new music from Midnight Syndicate. Here's the scoop from Edward Douglas of MS...
"It's our tribute to the classic Universal Monster movies and the Hammer Films they inspired. I've also found that we're pulling bits of inspiration from the European horror films from the 60s and early 70s (Amicus, Tombs of the Blind Dead) and a bit of those Poe Corman classics (Masque of Red Death, Usher, etc.). I've found that we are heavily influenced by the story, characters, and atmosphere of the Universal films more than the actual scores. I think when people listen to this disc, they are more apt to hear the musical influence of the Hammer films (James Bernard).
"Our goal is to blend the music and the sound design in such a way that you are transported to the "world of Universal Monsters," the "world of Hammer Films" - a world were creatures of the night roam the countryside, strange, small villages dot the landscape, and dark castles harboring God knows what pepper the mountains. So there are plenty of nods to various creatures on this disc, we don't focus on just one, and (like all of our discs) we want to leave a lot of what is happening up to the listener."I've really enjoyed getting in the mood for this by watching these horror classics. Sometimes it's for the first time, sometimes, for the tenth."
And, oddly enough, the 1oth time is never enough. Looking forward to hearing this one from Midnight Syndicate. Hell, it's not Halloween without them conjuring up something sinister to listen to while biting into trick or treat candy. Again and again.

Looking forward to hearing it. -EvS
