I am dumbfounded and annoyed by Total Film's 2010 Best Horror Blog Award. Out of the dozens of devoted and talented horror bloggers who contribute more to the horror genre than newsy tidbits and fluff reviews, Total Film can only come up with 5 blog nominations? This award is a joke.
I hold nothing against the 5 nominees, although Obscure Hollow is the only full-fledged blog on the list. Good luck to all of you in winning.
Total Film, you are totally off the mark with this award. Rename it or do your homework and stop wasting our time.
But congratulations; you've won my 2010 Horse's Ass Award for your meaningless award.

Amen!

Seriously. WTF? So out of touch.

I feel the same way...I am a fan and supporter of one of these sites, partially due to quality and also due to a friend that is involved with the site itself. Still, it is a horror site, not a blog and while I personally would never expect myself be nominated for something "so hip," I see it as highly unfair to all horror bloggers to be pitted against professional websites.

I'd have no problem if they called the award "Best Horror Site", and I love Dread Central, but like you mentioned, these really aren't blog sites.

I have wanted to make this observation myself for sometime. I love those sites like Dread Central, Bloody Disgusting (have memberships at both and promote on my sidebar) and Shock Till You Drop but always consider them to be sites like Twitch that seem to work on a bigger budget than blogs, and are staffed by more than one person. I have a feeling someone there even makes some money of their efforts. Cool. But is it fair to stack them up against the independent blogger who may be doing this in his or her spare spare time as they try to hold down a real job and support a family? Just wondered about this. I would hate to compete against Twitch or Dread Central for popularity. And these awards things are indeed odd. I know Obscure Hollow and have dropped by there but it is a screen capture type site as I recall. (later) I just checked the link and it is the site I am thinking of. Great films, down my alley for sure. But there are typically no articles. A couple sentences at most then a dozen or so screen caps. Not sure how these awards work I guess. May be an honor to not receive any.

Hey, I got nominated last year for this award, so it's not beyond reach. But man, what a bonehead move to switch it to mainly news sites this year and still call it "Best Horror Blog". Unfair to the actual BLOGS that deserve a nomination. Oh well, we do have the Rondos to look forward to.

Ironically! You've won a Lovely Blog Award, from Black Hole Reviews. Vist to collect your award. Pass it on! We don't need them...

I'll take a frantically typed, grammar error-prone, but truly loved blog that someone typed up after getting home from a hard day of work over a pro site any day.

A biological paradox: Have you ever noticed that there are more horse's asses in the world than there are horses?
Nice to see the worthy "Obscure Hollow" get attention, but the noms were wrong-headed. Good sites, but they aren't blogs!

By the way- HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ILOZ!!

It's curious that while blogs are taken seriously and are very influential as part of the new media in the political sphere, in horror our own community still has yet to recognize the legitimacy of this form of expression. Here's to hoping that future Total Film's awards lists have more depth, and that other awards like the Rondo provides us with the recognition deserved.

Oh really? That was not fair then. I would agree with John W. Morehead that Total Film should have a more depth worth for their awards.

Wow. That's a bit of a stretch. Seems the differences between site and blog have been totally lost in the dark on this one. I also agree that sites like BD and others shouldn't even be included on the same plane as blogs.
Oh, well. True fans of the genre (in my opinion) will always be able to tell what Horror sites are the "best"
